Former college student, Tyreece took part in our Powering Potential programme supported by Dell Technologies last year.

Following this he's secured his 'dream job' in tech in Manchester supporting customers with AI and automation within their businesses.

Tyreece has also been back to support students on the current programme and told a packed audience at the House of Lords last night about why it's important to volunteer and what's next for him.

"It’s been really good to go back and give a little bit. I feel like I’m a good example now because I can say, "I came through this programme, and I was in the same position as you."

"I can be an example for them and help them feel inspired because having someone who has gone down that path makes it feel more possible. I feel like I inspired quite a lot of people at the workshops.

"A lot of the younger students came up to me, asking for my advice and what I would say to them about where they wanted to go. That was really nice - to be able to do that and just talk about my journey as a whole.

I never thought I would achieve what I have because I wasn’t always the smartest individual. It’s really impressive to see how far I’ve come. I always kind of thought I'd have a career that isn’t super fulfilling, but pays the bills.

"But now, I get to do something that feels more like a hobby than a job.

Waking up excited to go to work is the coolest thing ever.

"Each morning, I sit down at my desk with a free coffee, and I didn’t even know that kind of thing was out there. I’ve always wanted to work with computers since I was a kid, and now I get to just sit there and do the sort of thing I’ve always dreamed of doing. I’m really, really looking forward to my career and how far I can go.

"The end goal is still where I want to get to, and I’m on that path now. I know there’s still a lot to learn, so I never want to stay stagnant. I know that the more I learn, the more certifications, exams, and studying I do, the better it will be for my future.

"I still attend events as much as possible to meet like-minded individuals and hear from industry professionals about their paths into tech. It’s really inspiring because, even when I tell them how big my goal is, nobody looks at me like I’m crazy.

"They’ve all done the same thing, and they know it’s possible with hard work and dedication. That makes me feel really inspired to hear from others.

We were blown away by Tyreece's dedication to learning and we're super proud of his achievements.

Thank you to Dell Technologies for continuing to support our Powering Potential programmes in Manchester and Middlesbrough.
