We’re starting this #NAW2024 story with a huge CONGRATULATIONS! (Spoiler alert – he got the apprenticeship!)

Tyler recently aced his apprenticeship application, having been through our Bridge to a Career in Construction programme. He’s now looking forward to starting his apprenticeship in September.

How it started

Tyler spotted the Bridge to Construction with Mace programme on his school noticeboard. Recognising it as a valuable opportunity he discussed it with his teacher, Mr Dolan, Head of Design & Tech at Heathcote School Waltham, who encouraged him to take part.

How it went

Tyler knows that learning interview methods and styles was what supported him most. Aware that the interview would be the hardest part, being able to have lots of practice runs and go through possible questions and have answers ready for them, meant he felt prepared.

Support with the application form was also valuable – a combination of feedback from school, The Talent Foundry and professional contacts, gave Tyler fresh perspective and advice, making his final application solid.

As part of the programme, Tyler was also able to join the residential weekend, which he told us was the real highlight of the process.

Being with like-minded people, who had the same interests and making new friends, was enjoyable and inspirational.

Mr Dolan has seen the growth in Tyler since he began the programme. He told us how Tyler now helps him to drive their lessons forward with his new-found professional knowledge – from being aware of his audience when explaining a theory in class, to his use of language, it’s clear Tyler has been networking with professionals.

How it's going

Whilst we may have already spilled the beans on this part of the news story, this is the perfect time to share what Mr Dolan has to say about our programme and Tylers achievements:

The transformation I’ve seen in Tyler is incredible, it has made him employable, increased his level of aspiration, which has translated into lessons where he is inspiring others. This programme does everything to help develop the whole person.

Tyler, meanwhile is grateful for the experience - "having my future secure is a nice feeling" and to anyone thinking about taking part in a Bridge programme he’d urge them to take part

Go for it. This programme is probably the most important thing I’ve done – I wouldn’t have got the help and guidance I’ve had from anywhere else. I wouldn’t have been as successful if I hadn’t done the programme.
