Sometimes, all it takes is one spark to ignite a world of potential.

For Alexandra, a former participant on The Talent Foundry's programmes, that spark came during the Bridge to a Career in Construction programme, delivered in partnership with Mace Group.

Today she is a thriving Project Manager Apprentice, but her journey began with curiosity, courage and a single spark.

Discovering the Bridge to a Career in Construction programme

“I was in between two career choices and looking for something in project management when I heard about the Talent Foundry and the programme at school. I thought, this is my opportunity to get into it.”

Building skills and confidence

Through workshops, coaching sessions and our residential week-end, Alexandra realised the power of her voice and ideas:

“During the residential, we had to build a raft. I started in the background, hesitant to share my thoughts. But when I spoke up, my idea helped the team. It built my confidence and taught me teamwork—both essential for project management.”

Proud moments

Facing challenges head-on, Alexandra reflected on her interview process:

“There was a moment I lost my words during the video interview. I remembered my coach's advice - smile, pause, and keep going. When I got the role, it felt surreal!”

New perspectives

Before the programme, Alexandra wasn’t considering construction:

“The role of a project manager - planning, organising, and working as a team -excited me. The programme gave me a detailed view of the role and shifted my perception of the industry.”

Advice for other young women

“Go for it! Don’t let the idea of construction being male-dominated hold you back. You bring unique value to the team. Be confident - you matter as much as anyone else in the room.”

“One piece of advice stuck with me: Every experience brings a skill you can use. I thought I had nothing to offer, but I realised I had so much to bring to the table.”
