We’re right on track with Network Rail, one of our programme partners, providing Project Management, Engineering and Technology sessions, for young people to experience what it might be like to work in a ‘real-life’ scenario if they choose to follow a career in the rail industry.

Students in Year 12 and 13 are supported by mentors from Network Rail, whilst working through immersive, interactive and engaging sessions exploring a journey, in which they must act as either Network Rail data and tech specialists, or project managers.

Students develop core transferable skills such as innovation and creativity, while also learning about key Network Rail competencies including accountability, collaboration, and responding to challenging situations, increasing their key employability skills.

“I learned so many vital skills which will benefit me hugely in the world of work.” Year 10 student, Philips High School

The programme offers two sessions delivered in school and two at the Network Rail offices or external sites. It encourages students, who might not have considered it, to think about pursuing a career in the rail sector or an apprenticeship within rail.

Amit Kotecha, Senior Campaigns Manager at Network Rail said:

"Inspiring young people to pursue STEM subjects and to join our industry is key, to ensure we have the skills we will need in the rail industry in the future. We are looking for the next generation of innovators and engineers to join us and help us to deliver a safe, reliable and green service for our passengers.”
